Featured Book of the Month: "Listening Prayer", by Leanne Payne

More than a “how to” about keeping a prayer journal, "Listening Prayer", by Leanne Payne leads the reader deeper into the walk in the Spirit, illuminating the path in a fresh way with the best of ancient spiritual direction. Part One is an excellent teaching on prayer journals, using the Lord’s Prayer as a template; however, the second part of the book, “Listening to God” is the real thriller. She discusses healing prayer, but that is not the locus at all. Chapter 10 is titled “Becoming Spiritually Mature through Listening to God,” and is perhaps the shortest description of the book. Payne describes snares along the way, such as snares of sentimentality, neognostic listening, subjectivism. These snares trap us as individuals and commmunions. For anyone who feels called to a deeper walk with God, to discover practicing the presence of God, this book is more than helpful.
