On the Canterbury Trail
An Introduction to the Christian Faith and the Anglican Tradition
This class serves as preparation for all adults who wish to be baptized and/or confirmed.
On the Canterbury Trail, taught by two of our parish priests, looks at the basic teachings and beliefs of the Christian Church (what it means to be a Christian) and also provides an introduction to the Episcopal/Anglican tradition. The semester is divided into two portions. The first half, taught by Fr Thomas Kincaid, looks at the basic questions that many people have about the Christian Faith: the trustworthiness of the Bible and Jesus himself; the relationship between the Old and New Testaments in the Bible; the teaching that God is a Trinity (one God in three persons); and how to receive what Jesus offers to us in his death and resurrection.
Halfway through the class, we will take a short weekend retreat, one of the highlights of the semester. The two talks that weekend will serve to transition from Part I to Part II of the course, as we look first at the relationship Jesus offers to us, and how He sustains that through our weekly worship in the service of Holy Communion.
The second half of the class (taught by Fr Matthew Olver) looks at the worship life that is centered on the Sacraments and provides a more in-depth discussion and explanation of the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion. The last two sessions of the class will be some practical help about how to develop and maintain our relationship with Jesus.
Everyone who joins the parish at Incarnation 101 is strongly encouraged to take this class. This class also serves as the necessary preparation for adults who wished to be baptized and/or confirmed. If you have already been confirmed in the Roman Catholic or Orthodox Churches, this class is also required preparation to be received into the Episcopal Church/Anglican Communion. All adults who have been baptized are strongly encourage to be confirmed (click here for more information about the Sacrament of Confirmation).
