Sunday Classes

(Adult Sunday School is in recess December 20 for the Christmas Pageant in the Great Hall, as well as December 27 and Jan 3. Adult Sunday Classes resume on January 10.)

The Bible in the Presentation of the Church

The Rev’d Canon Dr. Chris Seitz | Great Hall (begins January 10)

From earliest times (inherited from the synagogue and Christ’s own practice) the Church has had the Bible placed before it in an orderly way. Concern for understanding the Bible’s own internal relationships; hearing it in a comprehensive way; and guarding some sense of the narrative line (especially of the Gospels) have been three hallmarks of how the Bible has been Presented in the Church. Preaching in the context of Sunday worship takes its bearing from this presentation, but the lessons as chosen reflect certain important relationships that are best understood through teaching and explication. Join us Sunday for a time of study of the Bible in the Presentation of the Church.

Young Adult Bible Study – Galatians

Matt Larsen | Conference Room (next to the library) (begins January 10)

Join with other young adults – married and single – and learn from Paul's letter to the Galatians, exploring salvation in Jesus Christ and what it means for us as we live out the Good News together. Please bring your Bible.

God’s Gift of Adolescence: Parents Seeking Faithful Families

Cynthia Krause | Family Ministries Room (begins January 10)

Parishioner and parent of an adolescent herself, Cynthia Krause leads this class for parents with teens. The goal is to gather and focus our resources on deepening our personal relationships with God as we learn together ways to help our children and families thrive through these special years of adolescence.

Studies in Humility for Texans

David Krause | Children’s Choir Rehearsal Room (begins January 10)

Come explore the follow up to a thorough study of how the Scriptures treat the topic of humility by looking at The Rule of St. Benedict, specifically the seventh chapter on humility. St. Benedict composed his work in the late 500’s and it served as the model for the organization of religious orders in the West. While the purpose of the class is not to make monks and nuns out of everyone, St. Benedict is very helpful in focusing on the nature and quality of a life lived in and for Christ and his kingdom. After that, we will explore a contemporary work on the practice of humility in daily life.
