Angel Tree - Share the Holiday Spirit Angel Tree is a church ran Adopt-A-Family program to reach out to the less fortunate families in our parish neighborhood. In celebration of the birth of our Lord, we share His blessings by taking gifts and food to over 100 needy families in the Incarnation’s neighborhood. This ministry is a joyful Christmas tradition for many families and church groups. Paula Bartholomew says "I’m a lifetime member of Incarnation and, from earliest childhood, I remember donating food from my mother’s pantry and buying gifts with my allowance for the church to distribute at Christmas." The project begins in September when we write letters to nine area schools asking for the names of ten families among the working poor. Their children would not otherwise be able to celebrate the season. We invite these families, to send us wish lists to put on the Angel Tree. We also include the twelve families living in Spencer Gardens, an ASD assisted living facility. After the Angel Tree is put up in mid November, parishioners select a family to “adopt” for Christmas. Individually or together with friends and family members, they purchase gifts for each member of the adopted family. Between the food collected in Sunday school classes during November and early December and food purchased by Outreach, we fill four to five bags of groceries for each family. On a selected Saturday a couple of weeks before Christmas, volunteers come to the Great Hall, collect the assembled food and gifts and deliver them to the adopted families. This is the most joyful and inspiring part of the entire ministry. We receive hand drawn pictures and eloquent thank you notes from children, homemade food from the mothers and countless blessings from our service in His name. Currently we need volunteers for the following: In-Gathering Overseer, Communications, Harvest Team, Wish Assembler, Packing Day Angels and Delivery Volunteers. Most of these positions begin in November and end before Christmas. If you are interested in helping this great cause contact the Outreach Department or Paula Bartholomew at 214/824-0051.
