Fostering Friendships Fostering Friendships is an outreach program that works to support TRAC (The Transition Resource Action Center). TRAC offers services to young people, age 14 to 24, who are transitioning from foster care toward self-sufficiency. Many of the youth come from backgrounds of abuse and neglect and have been living in a foster home for years.Youth who grow up in the foster care system often do not develop life skills. When they reach the age of 18 years, they “age out” of the foster care system and are on their own. In most cases, these young people lack family or community support outside of the child protective services system. They often lack the basic skills needed to find a job, keep an apartment, handle money or make decisions that will advance their independence. TRAC is one-stop place where young people can find help to get a job, enroll in college, establish a home, access health care, manage a budget, and plan for the future. The Fostering Friendships volunteers have the opportunity to interact directly with the youth of TRAC to develop friendships and to serve as positive role models. The following volunteer opportunities are available: Austin Street Ministries – Fostering Friendships and the TRAC youth will be assigned a date to serve food at the Austin Street Ministries to feed the homeless. Beth and Vance Maultsby are the Champions for Fostering Friendships. You may reach them at through email, 214-384-0529 or please contact the Outreach Department or return to Outreach Home. On December 2, 2006, COTI hosted young adults from the TRAC program for a Christmas Party. See the photo below!
