J.W. Ray Reading Buddies J.W. Ray Reading Buddies is a volunteer opportunity that ministers to first, second, and third graders at J.W. Ray Learning Center (across Central Expressway from COTI). This is a daytime volunteer opportunity for Incarnation parishioners who enjoy working with young children. The program's mission is to work on a one-on-one basis with children who are at risk of falling behind in their reading skills. Since the ability to read is such a key predictor of a child's success in school, we have chosen to concentrate our efforts on "catching" these children before they fall. Most volunteers work in the morning for 30 to 45 minutes once a week with a child who has been selected by one of the school's teaching or counseling staff. Volunteers do not require special training, but must register with DISD as a volunteer. This is a very simple process that can be done online @ http://www.dallasisd.org. For more information, please contact the JW Ray Reading Buddies champion Sandy Mebus or return to Outreach Home.
