Fr Matthew is the father of Claire and Isaac and has been married to Kristen since 2001. His roots are far from Texas and the Anglican Communion: born in southern Pennsylvania and raised in the Brethren in Christ Church, a denomination in the Anabaptist tradition, he joined Church of the Incarnation in June of 2006, after having served at St John’s, Dallas as curate and chaplain to St John’s Episcopal School. His undergraduate work was in English Literature at Wheaton College and his theological was taken at Duke University Divinity School (suma cum laude). He has a strong interest in theology and theological education, and his academic interests include the development of doctrine, developing ideas of authority in the late patristic period, theology of the Prayer Book, Eucharistic theology, and ecumenism. The later interest, particularly in Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission, brought him to Rome with other American Friends of the Anglican Centre in Rome for Archbishop Rowan William’s first official visit to Pope Benedict XVI in November 2006. He serves as the ecumenical officer for the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas and has just been appointed to the Anglican-Roman Catholic Dialogue in the United States. Fr Matthew writes occasionally for Covenant, a group of evangelical and catholic Anglicans committed to working for the Gospel in the Anglican Communion. Fr Matthew is movie buff, loves to read fiction and occasionally plays U2 songs with the Uptown Band.
