A Guide to Confirmation Class

During the sixth grade Confirmation year, we focus on studying the New Testament, the Sacraments, Anglicanism, the Book of Common Prayer, worship training and discipleship. We will concentrate on the gospels and the teaching of our Lord as well as the epistles and teachings of the early church.

Because community is so important to our understanding of “being church,” the class will also have opportunities for service and community building outside of the Sunday morning class. We will have a kick-off party and an overnight retreat in the spring. We will take several field trips to experience different faith traditions, and we will participate in two service opportunities. The first will be providing dinner for Austin Street Shelter in late October and the second will be assisting a family in need through Dallas Interfaith Housing. These out-of-class activities will require some planning and coordination, so we will be recruiting room parents for the class to help. If you would be willing to serve in this capacity, please contact us.

Before Christmas you and your child will choose a mentor, a faithful Christian adult (preferably from the parish) who will assist your child in working through his/her personal and practical understanding of faith. If you need help in naming a mentor, we’ll be glad to assist. Next spring the culmination of this formation will be each child’s decision to be confirmed by the bishop during his visitation after Easter. In order to be confirmed, we expect all children to be active and regular in classes and activities throughout the year.

We have an outstanding team of teachers that have committed to lead our young people through this immersion in “all things faithful.” Our teachers this year are Beth Bilbo, Nina Sanders, and Jeff Sanders.

Thank you for entrusting us with the spiritual formation of your child. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Lessmann.
