England Pilgrimage
In 1998 Incarnation choirs visited England for the first time and sang all services for the week in Chichester Cathedral before proceeding to London, where all services were sung for the week at Westminster Abbey. The choir has returned to England four times since then and established a solid tradition of singing in many of the beautiful cathedrals throughout the country and returning to the Abbey, upholding the choral tradition for which it is known throughout the church and the world. In 2011 a third venue, St. George’s Chapel, is added to Canterbury Cathedral prior to the return to Westminster. Services are, as they have been for 1000 years, sung daily save for a mid-week break. Usually Matins, a Eucharist service and Evensong are sung making for a very full Sunday. Since the psalms, motets and anthems are guided by the lectionary, each day brings new music. A daily rehearsal regimen fully prepares the choir for the services.
Incarnation is one of the few parish choirs in North America that sings Evensong every Sunday from September through May. This allows the choir to rehearse in our own church in advance of the trip “across the pond.” If you attend Evensong at Incarnation you hear some of the music which will (or has been) sung in these historic Anglican venues.
